Skateboarding images (8 images total) By Gina Miller

I created these images for a contest. The contest invited artist to make work to be used on the upcoming skateboarding movie Concrete Jungle. I was a semi finalist which qualified my chosen image (the top image you see below- Deck Dreams) to be on the DVD extra features art gallery. All the winners were chosen by QD3 (son of Quincy Jones). It means a lot to me as my skateboard albeit currently out of commission, still hangs in my garage. Your ex-skate betty, Gina

I invite you to comment on these images at my arts & animation blog here (when I have this written I will add the link here).

Below my semi finalist image Deck Dreams which will be featured on the DVD: This is a combination 2d and 3d piece — our guy is dreaming of a life on his board (or at least a ride — although I think this guy has got a real commitment), notice the stairs and pipes that are split in a kaleidoscope effect above his head. The rest of the image is surrounded in the feeling of flight (the birds & wings), freedom and beauty that skating evokes.

Unity:: This is my combination 2d and 3D computer artwork which has a background design made of skateboards.

With this image I am trying to show the unity of the sport. Skateboarding brings all together, every man, woman, and child, from every nation is welcome. All you need is a board, it's a beautiful thing.

Off The Wall: The character has just come busting through a concrete wall and the lower half of his body is still concrete. As he takes flight with his jump he is becoming more fluid and more human (which you see happening on the top of his body) — he is breaking free. The symbolism is sort of ironic, you need a little concrete to loosen up!

Vision: This is my computer generated image of a day at the skatepark. As time rolls by, and wheels roll by, so does inspiration for our skater to fulfill his vision.

Red Grind: This guy could not stay on the sidelines, he came alive just so that he could grind this sweet rail. And that he did.

Air: Flying high and catching air!
